My first week as a PAID (woohoo!) curatorial intern at the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum (NMHFM) is over! The museum is in a beautiful old building that used to be a school. I spent most of my time being trained by their small, hard-working staff and then worked a couple of [slow] days in the gift shop. Next week I get to dive in to some of the curatorial projects that I'll be working on this summer, which I am really looking forward to! More updates to come once exciting stuff actually starts happening :)
A window into my new adventure of moving nearly all the way across the country from the East Coast to Leadville, Colorado and interning at the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum.

Going West
I now live in a Wild West mining town! For those of you who have never been to Leadville, Colorado, here are a list of quick facts about the area:
1. It is almost 10,200 ft, above sea level. As such, it is the highest incorporated town in the United States (I think). To give you a frame of reference here, I'm used to nothing higher than 3,333 ft above sea level (App State's football stadium).
2. The population of Leadville is under 3,000 people.
3. To the best of my knowledge, there is one grocery store.
4. The closest movie theater is 45 minutes away.
5. It hailed/snowed briefly just two days after I got here. On May 25th. As in one week prior to June.
Today marks one week that I have been in Leadville. Below is a map and a few photos of the awesome road trip adventure Drew and I had while making our way out here:
